In the parable of the talents as recorded in Matt 25, Jesus tells us that God has blessed each person with resources and abilities. The point of the parable is that God will hold us to account for what we have done with the unique resources and abilities that have been entrusted to us. It doesn’t matter if there are others who have been entrusted with more or less – are more or less talented in certain areas than you are – just because you have a sibling who gets better grades or is better musically is irrelevant. It is so important how we use our talents and abilities and resources because in the end we want to hear the words of God in the parable, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
God has wired us and designed us in unique ways. He has blessed each one of us with special talents, gifts, abilities, personalities and interests. And these should guide us when it comes to making important decisions.
We are judged not on what we don’t have, but on what we have given. Good in math, or cooking or … What we will be held accountable for is what we’ve done with what we’ve been given.
